What areas can be treated?

Lumecca IPL can be used on all areas of the body. The most common areas of treatment are zones regularly exposed to the sun. These include the face, neck, décolletage, legs, hands, and arms. We do avoid areas where hair growth is desired, such as the scalp and eyebrow areas, or, for men who wear a beard, the chin.

Before the procedure

Prepare for your Lumecca treatment by avoiding direct, excessive sun exposure or tanning one month before the treatment. Your skin deserves a bit of pre-treatment pampering – be sure to wear a 50 SPF sunscreen before and after your treatment.

During and after lumecca

You will experience a bright flash of light during treatment. Redness and a gentle warming of the skin post-treatment are normal and usually subside within an hour. Over the next 24-48 hours, you may notice a darkening of pigmented spots, eventually leading to an evening out of skin tone as that outer layer sheds. For vascular lesions, you may notice veins blanching and disappearing or experiencing a temporary color change, which will dissipate after a few days.

How many sessions are required?

Many will notice an improved skin appearance after the first session, and will see even better results after multiple sessions. Your treatment factors in the severity of skin damage, skin type, treatment type (vascular vs sun damage), and power settings during treatment (your provider will discuss this with you).

How quickly will I see results?

Results begin to emerge a few days after the first session, with the skin looking progressively younger and more brilliant over time. Optimal outcomes will show after 1-2 weeks, especially with multiple photofacial sessions. For vascular treatments like facial telangiectasias, anticipate visible results within up to 2 weeks.

Are there any side effects?

Lumecca is designed with your comfort in mind. Most patients experience minimal to no side effects, with any skin reactions typically resolving within a few hours. Post-treatment sensitivity to sunlight is common, so it’s advisable to avoid direct sunlight and tanning. Your provider may recommend a strong sunscreen or other preventative measure to protect your skin after your treatment.
